Are you guys finally getting some warmer weather? The rains seem to have stopped here in LA, and the sun is out again, yay! I guess April’s calendar, Hair Bow Girl, brought out the sunshine :) I had loads of fun painting your calendar this month and dressing up Hair Bow Girl in a pink strapless dress for an Easter tea party with her pet bunny. Happy New Year! xo, Cristina Today, my mom and I are celebrating 28 years in the States! 💙 🇺🇸 ❤️
28 years ago today, the two of us moved to Los Angeles from Romania, with one suitcase and a few words of English between the two of us, but with so much excitement to be here we could barely contain it - an impossible dream that all of a sudden became our incredible reality! October 3rd is easily the happiest day of my life, followed by a close second, March 16, the day I became a proud American citizen more than 17 years ago. The happiness, the culture shock, the disbelief that we actually moved to the promise land, aka California, to start the better parts of our lives are still so vivid in my memory. I remember telling myself on that miraculous day, almost three decades ago, that anything I will EVER do or accomplish from that day forward will be just the cherry on top. Because, as far as I was concerned, I had made the biggest, greatest dream I'd ever had come true! A true miracle! 💙 ‘Gib, Gib, come to California!’ was playing over and over in my head as we arrived at LAX in the middle of the night. The line Anthony Edwards says to John Cusack in ‘The Sure Thing’ as he’s hanging out by the pool in the dead of winter - one of the few but precious references I had to lead me as a young girl on my quest to some day live in LA, and it was actually, finally HAPPENING! ❤️ And here I am, so many years later, as grateful and incredibly happy to live an amazing life as a proud American, in this beautiful country of ours that I felt was home long before I moved here, celebrating each day and thankful I get to live here. On top of it all, it feels amazing to be going on 6 years since moving back to my beloved LA again, where it all began 28 years ago, always an LA girl at heart, and to live my dream in the only place that’s ever felt like my true home. 💙 Happy 28th anniversary, mommy! @ariclia 🥂 I love you and thank you SO much for all your sacrifices and for your constant unconditional love and support! Here’s to 28 more amazing years here at home! God bless America! 😘💙🇺🇸❤️✨ Hi guys, Are you as excited as I am about October and Halloween at the end of the month? Thought so! Every October 1st I get super excited about Halloween, and I start thinking about costume ideas. I love Halloween so much that sometimes I make 2 or 3 costumes and wear them at different parties, or even just during the day around town or during my work day. This year I’m leaning towards being a unicorn. Ya know, a rainbow of color, gold unicorn horn and lots of gold and sparkle! Gotta get my color and sparkle fix! ;) And of course, your calendar for October was inspired by my unicorn dreams, so I give you: Unicorn Girl! I hope you like Unicorn Girl, and maybe she’ll even inspire you to get going on your Halloween costume early on this year – I know I will! Take pics of your colorful Unicorn Girl in the space where she inspires you daily and share them with me on Instagram: use the hashtag #ctudorcalendar and tag me @thecristinatudor so I can see them! It would make my day, and I would love to feature your pics on my Instagram! And I definitely want to see pics of your Halloween costume this year, too :) If your friends need some Halloween inspiration, or you just want to brighten their day, please share my website cristinatudor.com with them so they can download Unicorn Girl, too - if they sign up for the calendar at any time during the month of October, she will arrive immediately in their inbox. Happy Halloween! xo, Cristina Happy New Year! May the new year bring you much joy, health and happiness, and may all your wishes come true in 2018! <3 xoxo Cristina
Halloween week was such a blast, with tons of painting and creative inspiration and being out and about, exploring and having fun! Halloween painting inspo came courtesy of the fab Cara Delevingne @caradelevingne with her awesomely creepy pic with a tarantula on her face ... yup! She's fearless! (meanwhile I was shuddering while painting this lol) My pre-Halloween inspo came from @instylemagazine who featured Cate Blanchett with a sleek, 80's inspired hair do! Almost made me wish I had thought of an 80's costume ... but I stuck with our original plan for a couple's costume for me and Mr. K - see below ;-) Yup, it was Elvis and Priscilla this year :-)) We had so much fun at Clifton's Republic on Saturday night, they put on quite a show. And as per usual, we went out to dinner at a 'normal' restaurant before the party in full costume! It was awesome to see everyone stare at The King, haha! I've been asked where I bought my Priscilla costume, ha! It's all DYI, all the white on my costume is nothing more than duct tape! The mod touches on my basic black tshirt, on my skirt, the Peter Pan collar, belt buckle and earrings, all white duct tape. Including my boots, which I was completely taped in for the night, lol! On the homefront, it was my usual custom-made decorations - never not DYI-ing! :-) Even my front door peephole was decorated! The bathroom mood was 'eek' ... very appropriate ;-) My bedroom was all treat! But by Sunday I was pretty much ready to deflate Halloween, haha!
Next painting inspiration came from @dior makeup featured on @voguebeauty. You can never go wrong with gold!
The next day Reese Witherspoon was honored with an award at the 7th annual Innovator Awards hosted by @wsjmag. So inspired by her win, and her likeness to her daughter Ava Phillipe - they're like twins! Friday was all about having fun being tourists in our own city! Mr. K and I love exploring LA, and sometimes yes, that means making like a tourist and going to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills for selfies, fashion and illustration inspiration - cuz that's the kind of supportive bf he is :-) Stopped by Century City for a cappuccino at Petros for Mr. K and had the best lunch at the cutest yummy spot called Clementine in Westwood Village. While at the Century City mall, I managed to 'support' Madewell yet again: got another black and white tote! Surprise, surprise! The monochromatic obsession continues ;-) After a healthy dose of black and white, I was inspired by @mistyydowns featured on @imgmodels for a burst of pink and purple !! Painted her portrait while listening to the new @rachelplatten album 'Waves'
Saturday was all about Polo sunnies on @imgmodels! @thylaneblondeau is the lucky girl who got to wear these beauties! Oh, and they sparkle, too! May the sparkle, the stars, inspiration and the fun in your life keep coming! This is a trio of portraits for my childhood friend, Giorgiana. I've known Giorgi and her mom Nutzi since I was a young kid. But I have yet to meet Giorgi's daughter, Yasmin. Hopefully one day soon. And although years have past, and we’ve been living in different countries for close to 30 years, it’s nice to reconnect thanks to the awesome technology of social media. Nutzi, Giorgi and Yasmin: three generations of beautiful women. Giorgi's finished portrait. She was wearing the most fun outfit for a garden party, with silver glittery sneakers and a tshirt with a print of the shoes. I love the mix of the lady-like skirt in the fun bright fuchsia with a playful tshirt and sporty shoes! Super cute! I'm applying a bit of Martha Stewart magic, silver glitter, to her portrait. After shaking off the excess glitter. Cool sneaks! The beginning of Giorgi's portrait, during picnic at the park. Gotta love LA weather, it's always picnic ready! Nutzi's finished portrait. In progress, in Ella Studio. Adding the finishing Martha Stewart touches to Nutzi's gold necklace. Yasmin's portrait, a beautiful young lady. Ella Studio action shots. My Ella Studio's got me covered: cup holders aka brush holders, small water container in the second cup holder (under the painting), color palette and my messenger bag with my portable painting supplies. I'm all set! I could paint anywhere! Yasmin gets the gold Martha Stewart bling treatment, too. But all the glitter action happens at home, in my actual studio - as much as I love glitter and don't mind it all over the house, I draw the line at my Ella ;-)
